Common questions about using AutoGive as your tuition fundraising source

Does AutoGive offer loans or other assistance to help with paying for college?

No, AutoGive does not fund anyone or anything directly. Our goal is to build a great crowdfunding platform so you or your loved one can focus on school.

Can AutoGive be set up to pay my college or university directly?

Not at this time, no. AutoGive groups fund an individual recipient, and that recipient uses the money to pay for agreed-upon expenses. College, in this case!

Does AutoGive partner with any higher education institutions to offer tuition discounts or other deals?

No, AutoGive doesn’t partner with any external entities at this time.

How do I invite people to join my college funding group?

AutoGive makes it easy to compose your invitation via text message or email from your device. Look for the purple “invite” buttons on your group homepage.

Word of mouth is a great way to begin asking for help. If you feel up to it, you might consider posting an ask to your social media network.

How do group members make monthly donations for my college costs?

Simple! We support Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit/debit cards to donate to groups. Group members only need to submit their information once to donate monthly.

How do I, or the student I am supporting, receive the donated college funds?

When you create your group, we’ll ask you for the name and contact information of the person receiving the monthly donations.

Then, the recipient of the funds will be invited to supply banking details securely to begin receiving weekly deposits by direct deposit. Each weekly deposit equals the total amount the group collects that week.

Is the recipient of the college funds required to pay any fees?

No! The recipient receives 100% of a group member’s monthly donation. To make this possible, group members cover the payment processing and platform subscription fees.

Is AutoGive available for college students outside of the United States?

The recipient of the group's monthly donations will need to have a valid United States Social Security Number and bank account.

Group members can donate monthly from just about anywhere.

How are AutoGive donations handled for tax purposes?

While AutoGive cannot offer tax advice, receiving a financial gift/donation in the U.S. from another person is generally not considered income or taxed as income.

Please consult your financial advisor to determine whether these gifts will impact your eligibility for other income or assistance programs.

Donations via the AutoGive platform are considered personal gifts and are not tax deductible.

Can I use AutoGive funds for college costs other than tuition, like textbooks or housing?

Absolutely. Consider your broader budgetary needs when fundraising for college through AutoGive. Each student’s needs differ, but almost all college students need financial assistance.

Whether you need help paying for tuition, books, housing, or transportation, an AutoGive group can help you stay afloat financially while enrolled in school.
